MADELINE SUGERMAN (Co-President)

ARTIST STATEMENT:

I describe my work as a juxtaposition of color, movement and pattern creating a composition that is vibrant and thought provoking.

It is my belief that a true work of art is not merely a visual statement but should stimulate our senses, quicken our emotions, and allow the beholder to grasp the hidden beauty that lies within our midst. My mission as an artist is not to recreate nature, but rather to enhance the perception and magnificence of our realm. And to that end, I employ a variety of mediums to capture the essence of the subject matter. My work endeavors to bridge the gap between fantasy and reality and to portray that window which connects mankind to our environment and indeed to our universe. My paintings portray not what I see but what I dream to be real. In the words of the eminent artist Vincent Van Gogh "I dream my painting and paint my dream" In that, I find my greatest fulfillment.

ARTIST BIO:

Madeline’s creation “Namaste Turtle” was prominently displayed on 3rd Street  in Naples. The proceeds of the sale of “Namaste Turtle” benefitted the Conservancy of Southwest Florida. Her work is currently on display in her studio/gallery on Marco Island, Florida.

Madeline has taught a variety of encaustic (hot and cold wax) art classes in several art centers in Southwest Florida. She currently serves as a juror for two art galleries in Southwest Florida. In 2025 Madeline will be teaching at the Marco Island Center for the Arts. She also teaches private and semi private classes in her studio.

In 2018 Madeline and a fellow artist founded a local chapter of International Encaustic Artists (IEA) which is called SWFL Wax. The mission of SWFL Wax is to promote, inspire, and support the varied interests of encaustic artists. Madeline is currently serving as co president of SWFL Wax.
